Natural Makeup Application

During the week when I am very busy with work, I love to do a natural makeup look that is quick and easy. Below I have listed my routine for a natural makeup application.

1.) Cleanse and moisturize your face.

2.) Apply a light or full coverage depending on your preference. In the photos below I used Kat Von D Full Coverage Foundation in number #46.

2.) Apply concealer to areas needed. I used Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer in #16.

3.) Apply a pressed setting powder, and contour face. Add a neutral blush to the cheeks.

4.) Apply an eyeshadow base to your eye lids. Using a light vanilla or light shimmer color apply to the entire lid. In the crease I applied a light peach color for some depth.

5.) Apply mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

6.) Lastly apply a neutral lipstick or gloss to finish. Don't forget to put a lip balm under your lipstick for added moisturize and protection!

Daily Skincare Routine

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a stress-free week with all of the holidays here, and right around the corner. Happy Holidays everyone!!

Lately, I have been having some breakouts around my forehead, and a few on my chin. They aren't terrible, but they are driving me crazy. I am not sure if the ones on my forehead have been caused from coloring my hair from blonde to red. It is a different color line, than I have used in the past. I did begin breaking out on my forehead right after I colored it. For the past 2 months I have trying to figure out how to clear my skin. As an Esthetician, I have been testing several different skincare techniques to help my skin. Below I have shared my new skincare routine, along with a list of products!! :)

1.) Cleanser: Cerave Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin. I always cleanse my face first thing in the morning, and right before bed. No makeup to bed! Remember the way to prevent fine lines and wrinkles is preventative steps....aka before it happens. Starting young is never too soon! I also never use hot water on my skin. I only use warm because it is gentle on the skin. I use 2 pumps of cleanser, mixed with a tiny bit of water. I use circular motions for about 2 minutes, then rinse. Don't forget to check out my favorite cleaner post with a review on Cerave!

2.) Exfoliator: Eminence Organic Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant. This product is a powder substance. Sprinkle a small amount into your hands. Using a small amount of warm water, mix together in your hands. Work this product into your face for 2 minutes, and rinse. I only do this step 2-3 times a week. I try and spread it out, so I am not stripping the oils from my skin.

3.) Masque: Eminence Organic Strawberry Rhubarb Masque. This masque is amazing! It not only adds in hydration, had anti-aging products, but helps control my breakouts as well! It truly is amazing, and a little goes a long way. I use this masque 3 times a week currently. I add a small amount to a damp face, and massage into my skin for about 30 seconds. Then I let it sit for 10 minutes (while I am in the shower). Then rinse off, and your skin will feel like butter!

4.) Spot Treatment: Clean and Clear acne Gel Treatment. This is a spot treatment that is used just for blemishes. I use this at night before bed. I place a small amount of the blemish, and slightly dab my finger on it to push the product into the skin. This works great on blemishes!

5.) Eye cream: Eminence Organic Wild Plum Eye Cream. This is a great under eye cream, used twice a day. It helps with dark circles, puffiness, and add moisture to the eye area. I take my ring finger to add a pin drop size to each eye, and slightly dab the area to help the eyes absorb the product. Remember the skin under your eye is the thinnest on your body, so always use gentle pressure on them. This will prevent fine lines and wrinkles!

5.) Moisturizer: Cerave AM and PM Moisturizer. I love these moisturizers! They are great for all skin types. I use two pumps when using this product, and apply in circular motions until absorbed. Don't forget to always moisturize after you cleanse, exfoliate, or masque! The AM contains SPF 30. This is great because ya 2 products in 1! Don't forget even if you have oily skin or acne you need to moisturize. Look for oil-free in your products to help prevent oil buildup if your have oily/problematic skin types! If you are feeling extra dry: as soon as you cleanse your face, and your face is still damp, add your moisturizer immediately. This will lock in extra moisturizer! :)

If you have any questions about your skin or products please feel free to email me at Kahleydanielle@gmail.com or check out my Facebook page Kahley Danielle's Makeup Artistry! :)

You can purchase Cerave products at the drugstore, as well as Clean and Clear. Eminence Organics can be purchased through an Eminence Retailer, or myself! :) Eminence Organics is a 100% Certified Organic Skincare Line made in Hungary. I will be posting a review very soon.

Holiday Look #1: Gold & Red

My recent post of my gold/red holiday look was deleted by accident. To get this look follow the directions below.

Pop those eyes and lips this holiday using beautiful shades of gold and red together.

Start with a clean face, and apply foundation to the skin to give. A flawless finish.

Remember to apply a setting powder to the skin to keep your makeup on all day long.

Also, contour, highlight, and add a beautiful mauve colored blush to the apples of the cheeks.

Eyes:

-Apply an eyeshadow base to the eye lids. This will prevent creasing, and keep your eyeshadow on all day long :).

-Apply a beautiful gold color to the entire eye lid. Wing out the gold shadow to give a dramatic cat eye look.

-Apply the same gold color to the lower waterline, to give the effect of eye liner.

-Blend a soft neutral brown into the crease, to give a beautiful blended effect.

-Add a beautiful matte vanilla eye shadow under the brow bone, and in the inner corner of the eye.

-Apply a soft brown kohl liner to the top and bottom waterline.

-Finish the eyes with a great mascara! I recommend Tarte: Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara.

Lips:

-Apply a beautiful deep red lipstick or gloss to the lips. Fill in the lines around the lips with a red lip liner to plump up those lips! :)

Holiday Look #2! Navy Smokey Eye

Hi everyone! I am so happy I get to share my favorite holiday looks with you all. Today I completed a Navy/Gold smokey eye, followed by a beautiful nude lip. I hope you enjoy!

1.) Step 1! Complete your foundation routine to give you an even canvas to work with.

2.) Step 2! Set with a powder, and begin to contour using a matte bronzer.

3.) Step 3! Blush and highlight :).

4.) Step 4! The Eyes

-Start by priming the eyes with an eyeshadow primer.

-Using a dark navy blue eyeshadow, place this color on just the eyelid. Make sure to work this color well into the upper lash line.

-Using a light neutral brown, blend this color into the crease using windshield wiper motions. We use this to warm up the look, and blend out any harsh lines.

-Using a light gold or beige color use this as your highlight color, or place below the brown bone.

-Using the navy color, smudge a bit on the lower lash line, and add a touch of the gold to the inner corner of the eye.

-Using black liner, line the top water line.

-Finish the eyes with a black or brown mascara!

5.) Complete this look with a neutral lipstick, and pop some gloss on the center of the lip to give them a pop! :)

Lights, Camera, Lashes!

Recently I received a sample of Tarte Cosmetics Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara. The first time I used it, I wasn't sure how I completely felt about it. For the last 7 months I have been using Blinc mascara, which I LOVE! I decided I needed a change in my mascara because the Blinc can be very heavy, and weigh your lashes down. Two weeks ago, I figured I would give my Tarte mascara sample a try. Let me just say that I fell in LOVE Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara!!

Not only does this mascara lengthen your lashes and give them a nice curl, but it also does not contain bad chemicals or petroleum, which is found in a lot of mascaras! Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes is great for someone with sensitive eyes. I really recommend it for all mascara lovers out there! This mascara didn't flake, was very build-able, and did not irritate my eyes at all. The harsh chemicals that are found in most mascaras are not good for your eyes health, so why not use a great product that is also wonderful for your eyes!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes retails for $19.00, and can be found online at Tartecosmetics.com, Ulta Beauty, and Sephora.

They also make this mascara in waterproof as well called Lights, Camera, Splashes!

Makeup Storage

Hi everyone!! I hope all is well. I have been very busy trying to balance my two jobs, and apologize for not updating posts sooner. I am going to try and write new blog posts at least once a week :). I have been testing out many new products on the market, and can't wait to share them with you. I started brainstorming different ideas for my blog, and realized I have not done a post on my makeup storage.

Over the past year, I have been trying to figure out the best way to store the makeup I use daily. I really wanted to have a vanity in my room, but did not have enough room to have one. About 6 months ago, I was walking through Michael's Arts and Crafts store, and came across a scrap book bag. My light bulb went off, and I realized I could use a scrap book bag for my makeup storage! I just so happened to have a 40% off one item coupon for Michael's, and bought the bag for around $15.00. It fits a ton of my makeup, as well as the many brushes I own. Below are pictures of my makeup bag.

This bag fits perfect in my tiny bookshelf in my room, and I can carry it anywhere. I grab it in the morning, and bring it into the bathroom to complete my makeup routine. It is also great to travel with, and keeps everything nice and neat!

Kitty Kitty!

NAILS!

Hi everyone! A few days ago I made a trip into Ulta Beauty, just to grab some conditioner. Of course I ended up getting a few other things as well. For the past year, I have wanted to try the Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail stickers. They looked really hard to put on, and didn't want to waste $10.00, on them if they weren't going to work.

I have to say it wasn't that hard at all. My only trick would be is to use a sharper edge (cuticle cutter), to help cut the edges off the sticker that is not attached to your nail or skin. It took me around 25 minutes to complete this step. The great thing about these stickers is there is no waiting for them to dry, no spilling of nail polish, and no top coat! I have to say they are fun, but the downfall is that they are around $10.00 for a pack of 16. They come in several fun designs, and are great if your going to a special event. LOVE THEM!

HOT CURLS!

Hot Curls!

Hi everyone!! It has been quite awhile since I posted a new entry. I have been very busy working at my new job as an Esthetician! Let me tell you I am having so much fun, and meeting several new people within this industry. :)

This seems to be the summer of the "weddings." Not only am I doing lots of bridal makeup, I am also attending several weddings as well. In the past few weeks, I had attended a wedding back home. My aunt (who has owned her own salon for 25 years), curled my already curly hair with one of the best tools on the market. Let me tell you the "wand" curling iron is one of the best tools I have ever used on my hair!

After my hair was curled with the Hot Tools Nano Taper Iron, I had to run out and purchase one right away! I use this tool just to make my curls look tighter and fuller. I went with the Hot Tools Nano Taper Iron because this is the one my aunt had at her salon. I couldn't believe how hot the Hot Tools brand became. I need a lot of heat on my hair to get the curl to stay.

When using this curling iron, all I do is scrunch my hair like I would any other day. Later on after it is dry, I take the curling iron to the top pieces of my hair, and curl them. It makes my curls look "sassy," tighter, and fuller. This tool is truly amazing!

The "wand" curling iron can be very scary for some. All you need to do is take your time learning the technique used to curl your hair with this tool. It also comes with a protective glove to wear, so you don't burn your fingers. Be very careful when you first start using one. I picked up the technique in just a few hours. My hair is very short and thick. If it curls my hair, it will curl anyones. My curls lasted for hours as well!

Below is a picture of the Hot Tools Nano Tapered Iron and where you can purchase. The week of 8/31/2012, it is on sale at Ulta Beauty. The Nano Tapered Iron comes in 3 different sizes. I have the 1 inch barrel as well. All you have to do is wrap your hair around the barrel, wait 10-15 seconds, and slowly unwind the hair. Then, you will have some amazing curls!

Queen of the Nile

Hi everyone!

It has been a very hectic two months. I recently completed Esthetics school, and received my first job in the field. I couldn't be more excited! In the past two months, I have been experimenting with more and more products that I can't wait to share with all of you! The first product of the month is: "The Bronze Goddess Capri Eye Shadow Palette from Estee Lauder (Price $45.00)."

This palette contains 5 unique colors ranging in different gold tones, copper, teal, and dark plum. These are great options for a beautiful shimmery summer look. I have found myself using this palette almost every other day. The colors are very pigmented, and glide on very easily. Don't forget to use a primer if you have oily lids!

You can create many different looks using this palette. The colors can be used alone, together, or mixed in with other eyeshadows or palettes. If I could have changed one thing about this palette, it would be to have at least 2 matte eyeshadows included. This is also a limited edition palette, and can only be purchased through Estee Lauder.

Sigma Beauty! Best brushes in the world!

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week! I have been super busy lately with work and school, but in my free time I have been coming up with lots of ideas to review, and to talk about on my blog.

Before I purchase anything, I always research the product, and read lots of reviews. When I started to get really into the makeup scene, I wanted to make sure I had some great brushes to apply all of my cosmetics. I stumbled upon, Sigma Beauty!

Before I started my journey with Sigma, I was thinking of purchasing all MAC brushes. After seeing how much they would cost me (over $500.00), I wanted to find another brand of brushes with the same quality, that I could afford. I was so happy that I found Sigma Beauty.

Sigma beauty believes in great quality cosmetics, at a very affordable price! Sigma is most commonly known for their amazing brushes, but they also have some great eyeshadow palettes, and skincare tools. I have been able to test out most of their products, and I will just say it again.....they are amazing! Their brushes are high quality, that do not shed bristles, and are a great price. If  you can go to the drugstore, and spend $8-$14 dollars on a cosmetic brush, then why not spend around the same amount of money, to get a better quality and long lasting brush!

There are so many brushes to choose from! If you're stuck, you can always buy Sigma brush sets. Most of the sets include 12 brushes for under $100.00. In the sets you get a brush for each part of the face. From powder, to eyes, and to lips. For my vegan friendly bloggers, they even have an all vegan friendly brushes!

Sigma has so many brushes to choose from, but I wanted to share my top favorite 3 brushes! This could help you start your kit, or help grow your makeup collection as well!

1.) F80: Flat Synthetic Brush. $16.00 This is my all time favorite brush! You can apply your foundation with this dense brush, which will give you an airbrush finish to your face.

Tip: Place a few drops of foundation onto your hand. Dap the brush onto the foundation, and buff the product into the skin using small circles. This will give that beautiful airbrush finish!

2.) F30: Large powder brush. $20.00 This brush can be used to apply your powder, bronzer, and even dusting on some blush! This brush is very versatile, and you can dust your powder on in seconds because of it's size!

3.) E40: Blending Brush. $9.00 The E25 brush is one you should always have in your makeup bag! The biggest mistake I see many people make when applying their eyeshadow is not blending those harsh lines. Using the blending brush you can add color to the crease of your eyelid to give your eyes some depth.

Then, cleaning off the brush, blend from the corner of the crease inward, in then"windshield wiper motion." Tips for cleaning your brushes!! You should always clean you brushes! My trick to cleaning them, is at the end of each week (usually Sunday), I take baby shampoo (it is very gentle), and shampoo my brushes. I use warm water to rinse the makeup out of them, then sit them on a towel to air dry over night. I always clean them once a week! This is very important because it will decrease contamination, and reduce breakouts on your face. Bacteria can spread very easily!
Everyday before input my brushes away, I always spritz them with a little brush cleaner. My favorite is Sephora's brush cleaner at $6.00-$14.00 a bottle!

I have to admit that in my eyes Sigma wins over any other brand of brushs. The price is great, but the quality is even better. I have never had one their brushes shed or break on me. I own several MAC brushes as well, and I can tell the difference in the quality. If you would like to check out Sigma Beauty click the link below! Also, make sure to check back to my blog for monthly coupon codes of 10% off! If you spend $30.00 or more, you get a free gift with purchase!

Kenra Hair Products!

Over the last several years, I have been trying several different haircare brands. I have tried everything from drugstore, professional, and even organic brands, but nothing in my eyes beats....KENRA Hair Products. Check them out!

5 years ago, I was able to try Kenra hair products at my Aunt Marybeth's Salon. It was love at first spray. Hairspray that is! Kenra has several different holds of hairspray. From a light mist, to the best hold you could ever have! Let's just say Kenra 25 hairspray...your hair isn't going anywhere.

Another great product by Kenra, is their amazing Blow Dry Spray. Before I turn the blow-dryer on, I mist this great smelling spray into my wet hair. This product helps protect your hair from the heat of the blow-dryer and styling tool, but also helps cut blow-dry time in almost half the time. Believe me, I have short hair, but it still takes me 25 minutes to blow-dry my hair. This product has cut back the time on blow-drying, but also has helped cut out the frizz. I highly recommend this product!

After I blow-dry my hair, I always like to add some shine back into my hair. Kenra's Platinum Silkening Gloss, not only helps with the frizz, but smells incredible. I pump about 3 drops (a little goes a long way) into my hands, rub them together, and lightly run my fingers though my hair. It makes your hair shiny, without looking greasy, and smell wonderful!

Lastly, my go to shampoo and conditioner! Kenra's Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner decreases the frizz in my hair, and leaves it feeling silky and smooth. The conditioner is great to help decrease frizz, and add shineback into my hair. I always end up going back to this duo! This is highly recommended for course, dry, and curly hair types.

My Holy Grail.....Mascara!!

blinc

I think I have finally discovered the best mascara in the world! Last weekend at the International Beauty Show, I was able to get my hands on a mascara called Blinc. Let's just say it is AMAZING!

"Blinc invented a techgnology breakthough in mascara that allows fo the easy application of water-resistant "tubes" around your lashes, which differs from the pointed on coverage of conventional mascaras. Once applied, the tubes encase your lashes and will not run, smudge, club, or flake, even if you cry or rub your eyes. -Blinc"

After using this mascara for over a week, I can tell that my lashes look healthier. My favorite thing about this mascara is that in the morning, I have had ZERO raccoon eyes! My eyes tend to water a lot during the day, and my mascara will usually run under my lash line. Since using Blinc, I have had zero running of my mascara under my eyes, or flaking.

I also have very sensitive eyes and I also wear contacts. I have had no problems with Blinc stinging my eyes, or making them water. At first I was a little nervous when purchasing this mascara. I felt that even though the product sounds great, how was the mascara brush going to be? As soon as I opened the product, and it first touched my eyes, I fell in love! The brush is amazing. Blinc mascara gives you length and volume.

The best part of this mascara is the removal. You only need lots of warm water and gentle pressure, from your fingertips, a washcloth, or from water pressure will remove the small tubes off your lashes.

Blinc cosmetics company also uses the same technology, and had created: Eyeliner, Eyeshadow Primer, Mascara Primer, Eyebrow Mousse, and a dramatic natural lash enhancer.

Blinc mascara comes in several colors such as:
Black, dark brown, medium brown, dark blue, dark purple, and dark green!

Check it out!

Dinair! Let's airbrush!

Dinair!

Hi everyone!

I have to apologize that I have not written a blog in what feels like forever. The past 3 months have been the most crazy 3 months of my life. My grandmother was recently diagnosed at the end of January with brain cancer, and passed away on April 13.It has been a very long 3 months, but as sad as I am, I am glad she is now at peace. She is now my guardian angel. Now that things are calming down, I felt the need to get back to blogging!

Last weekend I was able to attend the International Beauty Show in NYC, with my Aunt Marybeth and her salon girls! We had a blast. I have wanted to attend this show since I was in high school, and my dream finally came true. There were hundreds of booths with different information and products on skin, hair, and cosmetics. It was truly over-whelming, in the best way possible!

My main goal at the show, was to get as much information on new and upcoming products in Esthetics, but also to visit my favorite airbrush company DINAIR! Dinair was the first company to create the airbrush machine for makeup, in 1981.

After researching for the best airbrush company last year, I came across the company Dinair. After lots of reading and research, I decided to purchase the Dinair Pro Kit! Let's just say I fell in love immediately. Below I have listed some great information on the airbrush company Dinair.

In my own words I can describe Dinair as:
  • Affordable: They have payment plans! They have 3 main kits all under $300.00. Most airbrush companies cost anywhere from $500.00-$1000.00.
  • Small: The size of the compressor is very small. It is very portable!
  • Made for ALL skin types: Dinair is water resistant (it will last all day), silicone free (your not breathing in those bad chemicals), paraben free, and not tested on animals!
  • Light weight and full coverage: For foundation there are 2 separate lines: Glamour Line, which is a light-medium coverage for everyday use, and Paramedical, which is full-coverage, that will cover any skin problems such as acne scarring, tattoos, or rosacea.
  • Bacteria Free: There is no contamination going on with Dinair! No brushes are being used, which can spread bacteria to your face and to your cosmetics.
  • Easy clean up: You can do a full face of makeup before running the cleaning solution (which is natural), in the airbrush gun. That is awesome. Quick and Easy!
Over-all the Dinair is amazing. You can do so much with their airbrush makeup. From: Foundation, blush, bronzer, lips, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and even mascara! If you are nervous that you can't do it yourself at home, yes you can! All of the kits come with a DVD to show you all the steps on how to setup your airbrush machine, how to apply the makeup, as well as how to clean your airbrush.

If you are looking into Dinair as a professional use, it can be used for fantasy body art and hair art. They have stencials of all different types. I had a great idea the other day, and wanted to share it with all of you. You could setup a booth at your local fair or festival, and instead of doing face painting, use Dinair to airbrush fun stencials onto someones face. How fun! Dinair also has a tanning system for spray tans! It is awesome that you can get everything you need from one company.

For my personal users. It is a great choice for your everyday makeup. When you first purchase the Dinair, give yourself an extra 15-20 minutes in the morning to play around with the machine and makeup. After a week of using the Dinair, you will notice how quickly you can apply your airbrush makeup. Just think no more brushes, and no more bacteria! It will also help reduce fine lines, and wrinkles because will not be stretching the skin, like you would with your fingers or brushes.

Another great thing about Dinair, is that they have so many different colors to choose from. They have different size foundation sets, which include 4 foundations in the range of your skin type. You can also mix different colors together, right in the airbrush gun. You can also use a blush color on lips, or even as an eyeshadow. Dinair is very versatile.

I highly suggest if you are interested in airbrush makeup, or are even looking to help your skin get healthy,  Dinair is the way to go! I researched for the best airbrush machine and company, and Dinair is it!

Algenist...Amazing!

A few weeks ago, I stopped into my local Sephora, and began talking to one of the sale's associates. I told her that I was an Esthetics Student at our local beauty school, and asked her if there were any new skincare lines I could recommend to my clients. I told her my clients ages range from 30-55. She suggested a new skincare line that just was released to the public in Septemeber, called Algenist. The sale's associate gave me plenty of samples of each product they had in stock, and I couldn't wait to test them out.

Algenist

"A team of biotechnology scientists in San Francisco, California, focused on developing microalgae-based renewable energy solutions, unexpectedly discovered Alguronic Acid, a powerful compound responsible for regenerating and protecting the microalgae cell. When scientifically tested, Alguronic Acid demonstrated significant anti-aging properties, increasing elastin synthesis by up to 32%* and cellular regeneration by up to 55%*.
Leveraging the regenerative power of Alguronic Acid for the first time, Algenist delivers the next level of skincare technology backed by biotechnology expertise and outstanding consumer results (Taken from Algenist.com)."

Algenist is one of the first products to contain Alguronic Acid, which produces faster cell turnover, and reduces fine lines and wrinkles much faster, than other products.

After testing Algenist products myself, I noticed that my skin's texture was softer, the tone of my skin was more even, and I was experiencing less breakouts. When your face is hydrated, it does not have to produce more oil to makeup for the water loss, in which produces less breakouts.

This skincare line can be used on people from the ages 19-80 years old. It is that amazing!

My favorite product is the Algenist Gentle Rejuvenating Cleanser. It literally feels like silk going on your face. It also contains a toner, which helps balance the PH of your skin. This is great because you are skipping one step in the skincare process. It is already built in!

Algenist Gentle Rejuvenating Cleanser.
 Great for sensative skin types!

The only cons about this skincare line is the price. It does get a little pricey, but you can purchase travel kits and sizes for half the price! If you sign up for the Algenist Newsletter at Algenist.com, you can receive speical deals and saving on Algenist products.

These products can be purchased from:
